Update! After a long, hot summer and a challenging stretch of sargassum (seaweed) season, Akumal is finally starting to breathe again—and so are we. 🌿
The weather is cooling off, the sea is clearing, and for the first time in months, we can genuinely say: it’s a beautiful time to visit the Riviera Maya.
🌀 No Hurricanes (So Far 🤞)
Despite being in peak storm season, the 2025 hurricane season has been unusually calm here in Akumal. We’ve had a few rainy spells and dramatic skies, but nothing disruptive. The jungle is lush, the air is cooler, and the afternoons are breezy again. Locals know—September and October are sleeper hits for visiting the coast.
🪸 Update on Akumal Sargassum
This Akumal sargassum update is long overdue.

Sargassum has become an unfortunate reality in many parts of the Caribbean, and here in the Riviera Maya, it hits hardest in the summer. While some areas further north (like Playa del Carmen or Cancun) are still dealing with it, Akumal Bay has been noticeably clearer these past few weeks—and we’re hopeful the worst is over for the season. According to the Sargassum Monitoring Network’s forecast, beach‑level seaweed in the Riviera Maya has been tapering off this month.
At Hotel La Luz, we’re just a few minutes from Akumal Beach and Half Moon Bay, and the water has been looking actually swimmable again—no sulfur smell, no thick mats of seaweed, just gentle waves and clear views.
☀️ Cooler Days, Empty Beaches
This time of year is often overlooked by travelers—but that’s exactly why we love it. With school back in session and holidays still months away, the beaches are quiet, the cenotes are uncrowded, and there’s space to breathe.
And with daytime temps starting to drop (finally!), it’s the perfect weather for morning snorkels, jungle walks, and afternoons in the pool or hammock.
🌿 Ready to Reset?
Whether you're working remotely, taking a last-minute escape, or just tired of crowds and cruise ships, Akumal in the fall offers something rare: peace, beauty, and quiet renewal.
We’ve got space to book, the gym is open, and the jungle is buzzing with new life. Come see the Riviera Maya at its most real and quiet.
🌞 Book your fall stay at Hotel La Luz—before the high season returns and the secret gets out.
